A probe is useful in the diagnosis of caries
as a tool to remove and quantify bacterial plaque, coat and verify
the surface characteristics of suspicious lesions. There is no need
to apply too much pressure on the use of the probe / scanner,
because studies have found that this does not increase the accuracy
of the discovery of caries (Lussi A. 1991). The use of a gentle
pressure, defined as the force capable of whitening a nail without
causing pain or damage is highly recommended. See photos below |

All the surfaces of a tooth must be clean of
plaque and coating before the visual examination; then with a triple
syringe the surface is washed and dried. If there are suspicious
areas, a probe at the end of which has a 0.5mm sphere will be used.
of diameter to verify the texture of the surface and / or micro-cavity. |
